What We Offer

Discover the fun and challenge of throwing clay on a wheel. No experience needed - just patience, and reasonable expectations! This 4-week course will give you an overview of the throwing clay on the pottery wheel to make small pots. However, this short course is also perfectly suitable for intermediate potters who have done a wheel-throwing course or two and want to practise or refine their skills. What is different about our courses is that we are a very small studio with only four wheels. So the classes are small, intimate and you will get highly individualised attention from Jacqui. The course will go ahead even if there is only one booking! Tantamount to a private lesson. What you will learn - How to prepare clay - How to centre and open your clay on the wheel - Step-by-step throwing of simple vessel forms such as cylinders (the basis for all pots) - Ways to shape your pots - How to finish your work by trimming. - How to glaze and prepare work for firing What's included: - Use of wheels and tools - Glazes - Up to 2.5 kgs of clay (equivalent of 6 - 8 cup-sized vessels) - Firing of your pots up to 2.5kg of clay. If you want to fire more than 2.5 kgs, we can fire those pots at $20 per kg. What to bring (prepare to get messy!): - Towel - Apron - Enthusiasm - Suggest you wear casual / older clothes and closed-in shoes - clay can get really, really messy! - Long nails not advised (sorry!) -No jewellery on hands (they could get lost or broken) - Hair tie Suitable for beginners as well as those who have done some basic wheel throwing before and want to develop techniques. Suitable for adults 18 plus. Young adults (15 to 17) are welcome to attend if accompanied by an adult.
