What We Offer
Discover the joys and mindful pleasure of throwing clay on a wheel or making hand-built vessels in this five-week course every Thursday from 11am to 1pm, starting the 17th November 2022. This is a perfect opportunity to make some personal hand-made gifts for Christmas! No experience needed - just patience. However, this short course is also perfectly suitable for intermediate potters who have done a pottery class or two and want to practise or refine their skills. What you will learn: - How to centre your clay on the wheel - Step-by-step throwing of simple vessel forms such as cylinders (the basis for all pots) - Ways to shape your pots - How to hand build vessels by pinching, coiling, slab rolling or moulding - How to finish your work by trimming. - How to glaze and prepare work for firing What's included: - Use of wheels and tools - Glazes - Clay What to bring (prepare to get messy!): - Towel - Apron - Enthusiasm - Suggest you wear casual / older clothes and closed-in shoes - clay can get messy! - Long nails not advised (sorry!) - Hair tie Extras: - Firing of your vessels at $10.50 per kilo - Vessels are fired twice (bisque and glaze firings) - Vessels are weighed after firing, making them lighter and stronger - You can use our tools or purchase your own tool pack from us Suitable for beginners as well as those who have done some basic wheel throwing before and want to develop techniques.
